Parent Road Map

Enroll and Complete Driver’s Education

  • Either online or in class
  • Some high schools offer it
  • DMV.org online course

Student Driver's Training

  • 15 ½ years old
  • Enrolled in A.B.C. Driving School
  • Certificate of enrollment

DMV Needs for Permit

  • Certificate of completion of driver’s education (pink or blue certificate)
  • DMV form DL44 application fee: $28.00
  • Certificate of enrollment from A.B.C. Driving School
  • Legal birth certificate or current passport
  • Social Security number

Student

Take and pass the permit test
|
Call A.B.C. Driving School and schedule for the first two-hour lesson for a behind-the-wheel driving lesson
|
At the time of the first two-hour driving lesson, the instructor validates the permit with his signature
|
A Parent signs the permit after 50 hours of behind-the-wheel training
(Includes 10 hours of night driving over the six-month period)
|
Completion of two more two-hour driving lessons
(Six hours are needed to complete driver’s training)
|
Instructor will issue a certificate of completion for driver’s training
(After completion of the final lesson and student has paid in full)
|
Take and pass the DMV behind-the-wheel test
|
DMV issues a provisional driver’s license
(A provisional driver’s license is required until student turns 18 years old)
|
Driver limitations
You cannot drive between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
You cannot drive with anyone under the age of 20 unless accompanied by a parent or licensed driver 25 years or older
(During the first 12 months)
